Why Some Driver Applications Are Disqualified
We value every application. Sometimes, though, we cannot move forward because our insurance carrier won’t approve coverage. Below is a transparent overview of what insurers typically require and how you can become eligible in the future.
Our Insurance Requirements (High Level)
These are common industry thresholds set by commercial auto insurers. Meeting them helps us keep everyone safe and compliant.
-
Valid CDL & correct class/endorsements for the equipment you’ll operate.
-
Experience: 24+ months recent, verifiable CDL experience (insurer-specific).
-
Motor Vehicle Record (MVR): Limited moving violations and no major violations within the insurer’s lookback period.
-
Accidents/Claims: Low frequency and severity in the past 3–5 years.
-
Serious offenses: Typically no DUI/DWI, reckless driving, or hit-and-run within the lookback period.
-
Age: 25+ years.
-
Medical certification and the ability to pass required screenings.
-
Drug and Alcohol: To ensure compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, maintain safety standards, and meet the requirements of our commercial insurance provider, the following conditions will disqualify a driver from employment or continued service with our company:
Failed Drug or Alcohol Test Any driver who fails a DOT-mandated drug or alcohol test, refuses to test, or otherwise violates the company’s substance testing policy is immediately disqualified from employment in any driving or safety-sensitive position.
Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) Involvement Our insurance provider does not permit coverage for drivers who have been referred to, evaluated by, or participated in the Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) process within 5 years from the date of the employment application—regardless of their return-to-duty status or test results.
Therefore, any driver with current or prior SAP involvement is not eligible for hire or continued employment in a safety-sensitive capacity.
Common Disqualification Reasons
Insufficient Experience
Less than the minimum recent CDL experience required by the carrier.
Major Violations
Recent DUI/DWI, reckless driving, or license suspension within lookback.
Too Many Incidents
Multiple at‑fault accidents or moving violations in the past 3–5 years.
Wrong CDL Class
Missing proper endorsements (e.g., Tanker, Doubles/Triples, HazMat).
Medical/Screenings
Expired med card or inability to meet DOT fitness standards.
Insufficient Experience
Less than the minimum recent CDL experience required by the carrier.

-
Build recent experience with the correct CDL class and endorsements.
-
Complete medical & compliance items (current med card, training records).

-
Re‑apply later — we’re happy to reconsider once you meet insurer criteria.
We truly appreciate your interest. Our decision is not a judgment of your character or potential—only a reflection of the coverage limitations we must follow.
